Customs checklist for India and USA shipping

Filter by country, then Allowed, Ask first, or Restricted — the same checks we run at the Surrey desk before we book DTDC, DHL, or FedEx. Look up food, batteries, and branded goods before you seal the box.

Check an item before you pack

What DTDC FineEx Couriers will book from Surrey to India or the USA. Choose a country and status, or search an item. Unsure? Bring it to 12950 80 Ave, Unit 4, or send a photo on WhatsApp before you pack.

Item Status Notes

This is practical counter guidance, not legal advice. CBSA export rules and destination customs can still stop a carton we thought was fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this an official CBSA or Indian customs list?

No. It is what DTDC FineEx Couriers will and will not book from our Surrey desk, based on holds we see on India and USA lanes. Destination customs can still open or delay a carton that looked fine at drop-off.

Can I send homemade food or mithai to India?

Homemade and wet food — no. We will not book it. Sealed, store-bought dry sweets or namkeen are an ask-first conversation: bring the sealed pack to 12950 80 Ave, Unit 4, or send a photo on WhatsApp before you tape the carton.

Can I ship a phone, laptop, or power bank by courier?

Usually not without a desk check. Lithium batteries are the usual stop on air products. Many phones and power banks belong in cabin baggage, not inside a clothes carton. Search the item above, then ask before you pack.

Can I send prescription medicines to India or the USA?

No. This counter does not book prescription drugs or pharmacy tablets in courier cartons. Carry medication in your cabin bag with the original label. Do not bury pills in a gift box.

Do I need to declare jewellery or gold?

Yes. Gold and jewellery need a truthful CAD value on the paperwork. High-value pieces often belong on express with an insurance talk at the counter — not buried in an economy gift carton.

If an item says Allowed, will customs never stop it?

No. Allowed means this Surrey desk will usually book it for that country. CBSA export rules and destination customs can still inspect, hold, or assess duty. When in doubt, send a photo or bring the item in before you pack.

WhatsApp or the quote form: destination, a contents list, and whether it is a gift or commercial. We would rather refuse an item than watch it sit in customs.
